Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions coming to a PSPgo near you…
When Sony started releasing PSP games on the network one of the main criticism (especially with the PSPgo) was that there weren’t many high rated PSP titles on the store that people wanted. Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions is one of those games. It was a remake of the PSone Classic (Final Fantasy Tactics) for the PSP, and it contained new CG cutscenes, some gameplay additions and a few multi-player extras. It’s rated one of the best PSP games to date, (10th best according to gamerankings.com ) and as luck would have it, it’s finally getting released on the Playstation Store this Tuesday.
Now this is a pretty cool development, we haven’t seen an older PSP game be released on the Network for a long time. This could mean a new string of PSP titles could be making their way to the digital service, many would like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 , and Kingdom Hearts : Birth By Sleep to be released, so they could be played digitally. No doubt Square is prepping these titles for digital release so they can have a new market open for them when the Playstation Vita is released, with it’s digital backwards compatibility.
What’s strange is why they waited so long to release the game on the network, Final Fantasy Tactics was released 5 years ago, and it seems like they’ve always had the ability to release it digitally (if they managed to now). Sometimes I would like to get inside the head of those Square Enix bigwigs, and try to figure out what they’re thinking.

As much as I love this title, I find it hard as nails and have never managed to get a decent ways into the game. No, what I’ve noticed is that this title has a nice transparent plastic sleeve for the UMD which is MUCH tougher than the cheap white-edged ones which came on all my other titles. I actually lost my copy of Crisis Core because that cheap plastic screen collapsed onto the disk won’t stop pinning it in place.

That sucks on the Crisis Core front, that was actually the first Final Fantasy game I ever finished. You can get replacement cases I know, but hopefully they’ll just release it on the network finally. They’d be stupid not to.

Maybe next week? I just checked and the game isn’t on PSN as of Tues the 19th.

I have to disagree with you on that one my man, I have it on my Media Go screen as we speak. Remember this is a PSP game and it should be there, I found it through the main header though, and 9.99 just as I expected, and only 205 megs too, and some preview shots! ooo000ooo!

I liked the story in Crisis Core, but I got bored with the gameplay. Still, it would be nice if both Crisis Core and Birth By Sleep were released on PSN so that Go owners could play them.
I’m undecided about buying FF Tactics. I’ve heard that the learning curve is really steep for the original. Anyone know if thats true, and if War of The Lions is easier to pick up and play?

^ It’s a “matter of player skill.” Personally, I find the title PUNISHINGLY hard and can’t beat Ch 2, but to the title’s credit, I can’t bring myself to sell it, either. I just try again a month later and get an encounter or two further along. I’ve also heard that there are some ridiculous cheats if you use a GameFAQ, like you can get your characters into an encounter, then set it to XP and JP grind AUTOMATICALLY.
….I’ve never managed to set that up….
