Che Guevera and Fidel Castro, Stars of their own video game

Play as Che and kill Capitalists in Guerilla War coming soon to PSN

Having just done a review on communist video games, this news is actually pretty cool. Neo Geo games have been coming out for the PSP and PS3 recently, and four titles were rated today by the ESRB. Athena, HAL21, Ikari Warriors, and Guerilla War. Now I’ve never heard about these games, but the last one, Guerilla War apparently was called Guevera in Japan, and they just changed the localization in the West so we wouldn’t get all anti-communist on em (this was 1987 after all).

According to the wikipedia page about this one this game follows the exploits of Che trying to topple the Batista regime in Cuba in the late 50s, and Fidel Castro was player 2! Who knew that Call of Duty: Black Ops stole one of its characters from a poor defenseless Neo Geo arcade title from the 80s. Making a game like this in the 80s meant you had balls. I might even grab this one for the political ramifications and whether or not I’m put on a no fly zone.

Once again who knows when these titles are being released but Guerilla War is just about the most political game I’ve ever heard of, great to hear that it will survive now on our PSPs, so we can be subverted into giving each other free medical care or something.

Anyone else interested in this thing now?

Apparently I made a mistake, Guerilla War was released July 19th as a Playstation Mini and is right now free for Plus Members!
