This kinda came out of nowhere.
But rejoice! Finally we have a Playstation Vita release date! Jack Tretton gave the word at a Web 2.0 conference in San Francisco today. Which is definitely a strange place to annouce something that should have been a much bigger deal than it was. Hell, putting the news out on Pulse, the Bi-weekly Playstation News show would have been a bigger deal! Hell, checking out the Web 2.0 website Jack Tretton isn’t even a featured speaker!
So what else do we know about it other than the Playstation Vita release date
Well, it will play all your PSP downloaded titles, as well as PSone classics, there’s no word on whether PS2 classics will make their way on the device yet (but it’s possible they’ll make a PS2 emulator like they did for the PS3). It’s $250 for the wifi version and $300 for the 3G version in North America. That’s the cheapest you’ll find it so it’ll probably be worthwhile for European Vita enthusiasts to buy the system in North America and have a friend pick it up for you. You’ll also be able to keep in touch with them on Facebook and Skype integration that the device will have, most people are assuming that the Vita will have video chat on Skype as well, because they already have a video chat app, and there are two cameras on the device as well.
What games should I order with my Vita?
Games that are on the way look similar to the launch of the PS3 (but there are a lot more of them), with Resistance, Uncharted, Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty and many other titles being released. Most interesting to me is the port of Persona 4, the sequel to the amazing PS2 game, and also the best rated game on this site (Persona 3 Portable). But Uncharted is a must buy for series fans, and Gravity Daze looks like a really interesting new property that will showcase the new hardware.
We were wishing for a release date for the Playstation Vita just a few days ago, and luckily today we got it. Strange how that works out.

I bet the 32 gig is going to be about $95, they’re 9500 yen, which translates to more, but they usually just divide by 100 to get the NA price.

it’s still alot, don’t the PSV have its own internal memory??? when you add up the PSV itself , memory stick, and the games you’d be better off getting a PS3 with many AAA titles at the same price (which i need since i don’t have PS3 yet). i’m just gonna wait, but i know it will be in my comfy hands in good time. i’m a big sucker for PS2 portable gaming…
