At E3 Sony announced Playstation Plus, a new subscription service for the Playstation Network based on giving free content out throughout the year. Today it launched.
For 49.99 you get a year subscription, (and three extra months free) and you’re given exclusive access to betas, deals on games, and sometimes even free games, that stay yours for the duration of your subscription. Today the service launches with 2 free games, Wipeout HD, and Rally Cross (PSone Classic). You also get lots of deals on games like Midway games half off, and a few other games with their DLC available for free.
Now this does sound like a decent deal, and as the Playstation people say, you get over 80 dollars of value and savings for the first month alone, and more will be available as the months come, you also get Qore, the digital magazine from the Playstation network (usually at 24 for a year long subscription).
I do have a few problems with this though, even though I love playing games, I’m interested in owning mine, not just having them for a subscription duration. I have at the moment over 20 psone classics on my hard-drive, most at $5.99. If they gave me a discount on all PSone games, (lets say, 33% off, or Sony’s take
of a regular PSone classic sale) I would buy it in a heartbeat, because it would allow me to own games that I’m interested in, instead of waiting for the discount gods to give me a deal. Do you think that Playstation Plus is worth it?
