How confusing is this right?
Every few days we get a different word about what’s happening with PSoneclassics on Vita. First we get Joystiq saying it’s a gradual release, then we get Gamespot saying they’ll all be released. Then we get word that only the 6 or so PSoneclassics that have been shown will be the ones on the service. To confirm, not Joystiq or Gamespot gave a name to who told them their information. The only sourced interview done with anyone who works with PSOne classics on PSN is the interview I did with Monkey Paw games, which said he hasn’t had to convert his psoneclassics to work on Vita.
Yesterday the European Playstation blog said that Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil 2 were confirmed to work with the new software 1.80, but now even more exciting news, Playstation Australia posts on their Facebook that at least 100 PSoneclassics will be playable on the Vita by the end of the month when 1.80 launched (August 28th).
This has been very confusing for everyone, I’m thinking someone at Sony Japan built the emulator and they don’t really know yet which games will work, so the testers are getting back to them with more games that work each few days. Don’t be surprised if like the PSP compatibility on the Vita certain games are purchasable through the store, and many many others work through transfer with the PS3.
Lets just hope that the new folders for music and videos works for games too, I’ll have a ton of them on my Vita.

sheesh, what a crap shoot, would be nice if Sony could say something official on this matter and clarify. This goes back to that vague information thing we talked about yesterday. I’m just looking forward to trying the Classics I have saved in my store downloads. I see them there, but it says “Not compatible for download with Vita System” at the moment. I’ll be eager to see if that changes (for more games than just FF7) next week.
Finally, reasons to not carry around a PSP also to maximize my portable Playstation experience. Amen.

Having problems with backwards compatibility is really out of character for Sony. With the exception of the PS3 model which had it removed for cost reasons, every Sony system has had solid backwards compatibility. The Vita launched with solid PSP compatibility, so you’d think that all you’d need to do is sandwich the PSP’s built-in PSOne emulator inside the Vita’s PSP emulator, which clearly already exists. It wouldn’t be perfect, but it should be workable beginning point. And considering the Vita’s power, you’ve got quite a bit of work room.
I don’t get it. Unless Sony really screwed up on their chipset choices for both the PSP and the Vita, PSOne classics should come over in batches of thirty or forty of the most easily emulatable, not the six or seven most popular.

The big problem is the emulator, most other consoles have been hardware emulated, but who knows, maybe it’s been a business decision as well, trying to get people to buy Vita games… that don’t really exist at this point. I’m excited though, it’s only 9 days away.
One would think that if the emulator was halfway decent all the games playable on the PSP would be available to play… I’m not a coder, buy you would think that a 17 year old console wouldn’t be difficult to emulate, let’s hope eventually they manage to make a PS2 emulator too.
