According to Reuters the game system that has been sold at a loss for the last 3.5 years it’s been on the market has finally become profitable.
“The Reuters report did not provide an indication about just how much Sony is making on the system at present. But it looks like these early profits are just the start.Mainichi reports that CFO Nobuyuki Oneda said, presumably during an earnings briefing, that with continued cost cutting measures, the system could reach double digit profitability in the near future.”
Considering the company was selling this console at a few hundred dollars loss at the beginning of it’s time on the market, this is a huge boon for Sony, especially considering they made a loss this year of around 900 million USD. The profitability has been a bit of a headache for users though, removing such features as backwards compatibility to bring down production costs, and a slimmer redesign that reduced cost significantly over the older Fat model PS3s.
What does this mean to you? A Gamer? Not much really, just a little knowledge that Sony is back in the game profitability wise.
Maybe they could add that Backwards compatibility back in?
