Red Faction came out with the great idea of changeable terrain. It was a really interesting concept when it was first released, I remember on the PC Demo I would practice making little mole holes with explosives through rock walls. I never played it all the way through, but now that it’s coming to PSN as a PS2 Classic!

What was Red Faction about again??

From what I remember you play as a Martian miner who has been beat down by the bourgeoisie Earthlings for the last time and you start taking matters into your own hands. This was a cool look into Marxist theory, and considering I took a Russian Language and Culture degree, this concept is actually pretty interesting. Of course this game was very popular and it became a franchise with many sequels. Having never played the first one I might have to check this one out.

That is if I wasn’t flying to Korea on Tuesday… Damn…

Hopefully Vita PSone playability coming soon?

A surprise posting by the Playstation Blog through their weekly post on the Drop, two new psoneclassics coming to the network before the landmark release of Legend of Dragoon next week.

If you've ever dreamed of shooting drug dealers in a mech, this is for you.

The first, Future Cop LAPD

This game is sort of a mech shooting adventure game. I remember playing this back in the day on the PC, it was a ton of fun and had a lot of re-playability with a special tower defence like mode. I’m not sure how well it plays as a PSoneclassic, but I’ll certainly be interested to try it out. You play a LAPD Mech that has to take out drug dealers and terrorists, it can run around on two legs, or switch into a hover mode. I’ve been jealous of this game being released in EU for a while, so I’m glad I get a chance to try it.

The second Darkstalkers 3

The third release in Capcom’s fighting franchise that introduced us to the sexy Morrigan. The first game Darkstalkers The Night Warriors was already released on the network back in October. These games were celebrated as the genesis for the Marvel Vs. Capcom games (using similar fighting systems), so if that’s your thing, you should be excited.

Overall this is a pretty good haul for PSoneclassics, let’s just hope that the Vita gets PSoneclassics playability soon like Sony promised. Any time is good Sony, we’re waiting for ya.

Finally! A new PSoneclassic!

There hasn’t been a PSone classic released in dog’s ages, but finally we have one, and it’s a biggie.

Legend of Dragoon was an RPG released in 1999 in Japan (2000 in NA) that was celebrated for it’s depth and great art style. This has been one of the most requested games out there for PSoneclassics, and really it’s strange that it’s taken so long for it to be released, considering it was developed in house at Sony, and distributed by them.

This is great news for RPG fans, but the real elephant in the room is, when will the Vita get PSone Classics support? This is a pretty big sore point for early adopters that’s for sure. Lets hope that come May 1st we have an answer.

While wasting my time not writing a PSVita review I managed to find out that Sony managed to mess up my PSOneClassics. It seems like this has something to do with the update Sony made to PSN (Now SEN).

Where the hell did the copy function go???

Now when you try to copy PSoneclassic games you downloaded on your PS3 you’ll see that the Copy function is missing. Having 30 PSoneClassic titles on my PS3 I was kind of surprised that they were now unplayable on my PSP, so I called up Sony support.

Sony support told me to delete and download a title again, but sadly now the titles won’t download to the PS3, and you just get a “Please Wait” screen while it fails to load. The games do still download on the PSP directly, but this is a huge inconvenience for PSone Classic gamers. Especially for the real classic games that are 1 gig or more, remember, the PSP’s wifi is slow, and there’s no continue download option if your PSP’s connection is cut off. You’ll have to download it all over again.

Ideas as to why this has screwed up now?

This most likely has something to do with the PSVita’s launch, I’ve had the same problems with other games like Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus (for PSVita, that I purchased but won’t download). Valkyria Chronicles 2, (that won’t download on the PS3, and my original download told me to delete and re-download), and the Reality Fighters Demo won’t download either. This is a huge problem and it seems like Sony doesn’t have any idea what to do about it.  Honestly the content manager system on the Vita is a mess, and it seems to have messed up the rest of PSN as well.

It seems like Sony has screwed up another feature of the PS3 with their attempts at preventing piracy. Other content loads on the store fine, but if you want to buy PSoneClassics to play on your PS3 anytime soon, you might be shit out of luck.

Please emulate on the Vita!!!

Grand Theft Auto 3 and Vice City have been rated by the ESRB, games which should be pretty popular on the downloadable system. These two titles, the best selling games on the PS2, and most likely they’ll do pretty well on the PS2Classics side of the store. Despite the fact that I own the Grand Theft Auto series already, if I can get those games to play on a Vita for instance I’ll be quite excited.

PSoneclassic or PSMini? Who knows!

Myst coming to yet another platform type!

Myst has already been released as a PSP game, but Myst seems like it’s the game that has no bounds and is going to be re-released as a PSOne classic or a PSmini coming soon. Myst is the puzzle game that really blew people away in the early 90s with its at the time revolutionary graphics. I haven’t played the game since I was a kid, so a small asking price of $5.99 might be just small enough to gain my interest. (The PSP version is currently at $19.99 on the NA store, way too steep in my opinion). Once again we never know when these games will be released but sometime soon would be nice.

What about the sequels?

Riven: The Sequel to Myst was also released on the PSOne back in the day, perhaps some day we’ll get to see that title make it’s way to PSN, it too was wildly successful and then led the way to Myst III: Exile to be released for the PS2 and PC in 2001. It is impressive that a game from 1993 is still ported to new platforms over and over again. If you remember the original Myst was done with all pre-rendered graphics, so it should take a mammoth amount of data on your PSP Memory stick if you chose to indulge.

This was mind-blowing back when I was 8.

Killzone 1 for your PS3!

If you’re like  me and have only joined the Playstation generation with the PS3 and the PSP, you’ll be wondering what the original Killzone was like considering their two sequels have played such a big role in Sony’s First party line up the last few years. Luckily with the PS2 Classics program on PSN you’ll be able to grab it for only $9.99 come Jan 24th. GameInformer managed to break the story and Sony confirmed it! So for those looking for a little more Killzone action for cheap, you’re in luck!

Killzone for the Vita?

The real question that I’m sure everyone is asking is when will the PSVita receive a PS2 Emulator for these titles? Sony has said they’re working on getting the original PSone emulator working on the device (but that it won’t be ready for launch). Here’s hoping there are coders locked behind very big doors at Sony Japan working on this very problem.

For all you Final Fantasy addicts out there it seems like some more prayers have been answered, with Final Fantasy Origins coming to PSN for $9.99. The original games, released on the NES were actually last ditch efforts by Square to stave off bankruptcy, hence the name “Final Fantasy”. Of course it became the huge hit we all know and sequel after sequel was released. I’ve never played the first Final Fantasy games, but if you’re looking to see what started the mammoth game series, here’s your chance.

Last PSoneClassic for the year!

Klonoa Finally released!

Way back when we broke that Klonoa would be coming to PSN at some point, that was July 18th, and yesterday December 27th it was finally released. If you were waiting out for this one and you have any money left after Christmas it’s now up on the store for $5.99. Klonoa is a side scroller but still with 3D graphics, and a lot of people were really excited about when the ESRB rating leaked check it out if you have the time!

Tak 2 for you! (Tuesday)

Two games this week drop as Playstation classics

We’ve known that Darkstalkers has been coming for a while, but Tak 2 : The staff of dreams is a PS2 game that hadn’t been hinted to yet. Perhaps we’ll start getting more surprises with PS2 classics being incognito until their release like PSone classics were.

What’s Tak 2?

Tak 2 was released in 2004 for PS2, and was a charming little platformer in the vain of Donkey Kong (as you can use animals to help you traverse obstacles). This game was released for everything at the time and received decent reviews (it’s sitting at a 73.25% rating on Gamerankings.com). This looks like a decent little platformer for kids as it looks really colourful.

Sly Cooper Classics coming as well

For fans of the Sly Cooper series, the HD re-released are being split apart and sold this week as well on the Playstation Network, so if you’re looking for platforming in HD, Sly should do the job, and look great at the same time, the third game in that series (for the re-releases) also has 3D support. So if you’re a rich person with a 3D tv, you can get some REAL 3D platforming going.
