Why Remaking Classic games is a Stupid Idea

Everyone is clamoring for a Final Fantasy 7 remake, or a Chrono Trigger remake, the list really goes on and on. But I think this has to do with the infantile state of the gaming audience. Re-makes rarely ever live up to expectations, there’s always something off about it, and most fans are turned off. The big problem with gamers is graphics are king, and some people (for instance my brother) won’t even play a game that doesn’t have the best graphics (he’s not a PSone classics fan it seems).

What does the new Nintendo handheld mean for PSP users?

Today word came that Nintendo is releasing a new piece of hardware for the hand held market. So, what does this new device mean for psp users?

If the media is to be believed (this is supposedly confirmed by Nintendo) The new hand held, the 3DS is going to be a system capable of 3D visuals in your hand. This is an interesting concept that I’d love to see in practice, but the really interesting thing is how will Sony respond?

There are two new PSOne Classics out there on the network this week, both of whom I’ve never heard of, and one of which, Jigsaw Madness, seems like a great fix for whenever I’m on the bus and am DYING for a jigsaw puzzle. I haven’t had this urge as of yet, but You never know right?

Price: $5.99

PSN Release Date: May 7th 2009

Original Release Date: July 31st 1999

Story

Well this is the fourth game in the R-Type series, and because it’s a side-scrolling space fighter shooter there’s not so much story to keep you interested. The only details you have are that it’s set in the future in Asia. You (the pilot) can pick one of three ships and fight your way through encounters lovingly named by the writing department as “Contacts”. Sadly though,  Jodie Foster does not appear in the game. You’re here for the gameplay so let’s skip to there.

Yakuza Review

Yakuza

Because Yakuza 3 came out this past week, I thought I might as well write a review of the first game in the series, which I’m sure at some point, will become a PS2 Classic.

PSN Release Date:February 23rd, 2018 for download on the PSP3, and the PS4 (probably).

Aside: Though this is PSoneclassics.com, I write for fun, and I play games for fun. And considering I stayed up late last night finishing off this game, I thought I might as well share my experiences with those interested, because only using my PS3 for PSone classics would kind of be a shame right?

So I made my way over to the Playstation to see what new PSone Classics came out this week, and was sorely disappointed.  But hey, this year we’ve been spoiled so far, if you’re in the need for a gaming fix, grab Grandia that came out last week. Right now I’m downloading Pulse for this week, because Christina Lee is a FOX.

Now that Sony has been releasing more and more PSone Classics on the Playstation Network, word of mouth is getting around, and they are starting to sell significant units. Final Fantasy 7 alone has been in the top 10 most downloaded games on the network since it’s release at E3 2009.
